There are several things that you can do within your home to make sure that you are saving energy. Conserving energy may not be just about saving the environment anymore, it can be about saving you money in these tough economic times. Whatever your reason for trying to conserve energy, there are several small things that you can do to conserve.
First, turn off anything if you are not using it. Everyone can remember their mom nagging them to turn off the lights whenever they leave the room. It turns out our moms were trying to be energy efficient. Not only is turning off the lights important but it is also important to turn off all appliances whenever you are not using them. In some cases, appliances can not only be turned off but can be unplugged. If you rarely use your toaster, unplug it and you will save energy.
The next best way to say on your energy bills has to do with the difference between hot and cold. Rather than turn up your heater when you are cold, cuddle up with a blanket or put on a sweater. The reverse is also true, if you are to warm, rather than turn up the air conditioner take off a few layers. On the same line of hot and cold, if you wash your clothes in cold tap water rather than take the energy to heat up the water, you will save energy. It has also been proven that if you wash clothes in the morning or evening when it is colder the heat generated by your dryer can heat your home.
