Looking for a home can be extremely stressful, both emotionally and physically. That is why you must genuinely like and trust your real estate agent. But how do you go about finding the perfect agent for you?
Here’s a hint: the 80/20 rule applies. 80% of business is done by 20% of the agents. These are the agents that people like and really want to work with. So, although you may need to be persistent to get onto a busy agent’s calendar, it could be worth it in the end.
Here are some ways you can find the right agent for you.
- Referrals. Great agents are focused on their customers and make client satisfaction a priority. Get referrals and make an introductory call. See where it goes from there.
- Go to Open Houses. An excellent way to meet an agent. It is also a great time to critique an agent’s style and approach to selling a home (e.g. Did she engage you immediately or did you have to seek her out?)
- Become a Time Keeper. Take note of when signs go up in your neighborhood or on your drive to work. Then note when the sold sign goes up (or when the sign comes down—it varies). If an agent can sell a home quickly (especially in this economy), she may be worth talking to.
- Check Testimonials. Take a look at his profile online and read the customer testimonials. There is no way to censor these entries.
- Check Membership. Make sure she is a member of the National Association of Realtors. She is bound to a Code of Ethics and higher standards.
Good Luck.
